Dix Corporation was awarded a contract to design/build a Spillway Gate Isolation system that would work on all seven spillways at Brilliant Dam located on the Kootney River in British Columbia, Canada. Dix was awarded a contract by Fortis BC to design/build and install a Spillway Isolation Gate at Brilliant Dam located on the Kootenai River in British Columbia, Canada. As with a lot of the early dams, this one was not equipped with stop logs so that the spillway gate could be raised and maintained. This project rectified that problem. As the primary contractor, Dix teamed with Schnabel Engineering who designed the new system and Dix used a local Spokane company for the fabrication. Once in place the new bulkhead prevented the upstream water from entering the spillway, so the gate could be raised and maintained. The new bulkhead was designed to be used on all seven spillways at the dam.
