Dix was awarded a subcontract by Max J. Kuney Co. for the load-out, jacking, transport, and placement of the New Sauvie Island Bridge located near Portland, Oregon. Dix’s contract called for skidding the bridge off a pier and onto a barge where it was then raised 80’ off the barge deck using jacking towers. When in this position, it was moved 10 miles downriver and set on new concrete abutments constructed by Kuney. The bridge is 365’ long, 44’ wide and weighs 1,680 tons.
This project won an award for project excellence in the out-of-area category at the 2009 Build Northwest Awards sponsored by the Inland Northwest Associated General Contractors of America.
