Duane Hagadone conceived the idea of a floating golf green as the centerpiece of his beautiful new golf course adjacent to the world class Coeur d' Alene Resort.
Dix Corporation had been designing and building sophisticated floating facilities for the US Navy Acoustic Research Detachment in Bayview, Idaho for 30 years. Dix had also helped build the resort.
Duane Hagadone hired Dix Corporation to design and build the world's first floating, moveable golf green. As far as we know it is still the only one in existence.
Dix brought together a team of naval architects, mechanical and electrical engineers, meteorologists and other professionals to create and evaluate options and complete a design. A team of local contractors and fabricators led by Dix built the green. Special talents from the Coast and Canada contributed as well.
The green's mooring system is programmable allowing for play anywhere within a 100 yard range. A digital readout tells the players the current distance from the tee to the pin.
This amazing green, the 14th at the 18 hole course, has been featured in magazines and conversations throughout the world.
